James Bueno, commonly known as 'Bueno,' is a highly respected coach and the founder of Flight Academy Volleyball. Originally hailing from Dinuba, California, Bueno has dedicated nearly a quarter-century to coaching young athletes and helping them achieve their full potential. His coaching journey began with high school football, where he discovered his passion for shaping positive and successful young athletes across various sports.

In 2008, Bueno made a significant move from the central valley to the central coast of California, embarking on a coaching career in boys' volleyball. Setting his sights on the California central coast, he joined the coaching staff and quickly made an impact.

Bueno's expertise extended beyond volleyball, as he also achieved remarkable success in coaching various other sports. His coaching repertoire includes track, wrestling, martial arts, baseball, softball, and both beach and indoor volleyball. Regardless of the sport, Bueno's commitment to building strong, confident, and accomplished athletes remained consistent.

In 2014, Bueno expanded his coaching horizons by venturing into Club Volleyball. Recognizing the opportunity to make a broader impact on aspiring athletes, he also founded the Central Coast Beach Volleyball program in 2018. Within three years of coaching club volleyball, Bueno, alongside Chip Blaney, achieved a significant milestone. They led a 17u club team to qualify for the esteemed Girls Junior National Championship in Indianapolis. The team's exceptional performance at the Northern California Far Westerns National Qualifier earned them a remarkable 3rd place finish. This achievement marked one of the first instances of a central coast team accomplishing such a feat.

Bueno's coaching prowess has established him as one of the most successful high school volleyball coaches in the history of the central coast. His ability to inspire and mentor athletes has been recognized through numerous victories, championships and accolades.

In 2020, Bueno joined forces with Chip Blaney to co-found Flight Academy Volleyball Club. This new endeavor aims to provide aspiring young athletes on the central coast with access to top-quality coaching and the opportunity to reach their full potential. With Flight Academy, Bueno envisions a platform for athletes to thrive and achieve remarkable growth, both individually and collectively.

Coach Bueno is in his first year (2023) of coaching the Cal Poly Women's Club Team, where he has already made a significant impact. Under his guidance, the team achieved remarkable success, including a Silver bracket tournament victory at MLK, a Gold Bracket win at Far Westerns and a qualification for the NCVF Division 1 National Tournament

As Bueno embarks on his 24th year of coaching, his unwavering dedication, expertise, and commitment to shaping young athletes continue to inspire and uplift the sporting community on the central coast.
