Matt Webber is headed into his 13th season of coaching. Originally from the Bay Area, Webber was an Assistant Coach for the Liberty Girls Varsity Team from 2008-2015, and the Head Coach for the Liberty Boys Varsity Team from 2013-2015.

Webber played professionally in Europe for five seasons where he won National League Championships in Finland, France, and Spain and enjoyed competing in the coveted Champion’s League during all 5 seasons. Webber was named the 2009 League MVP in France and the 2008 Rookie of the Year in Finland.

Before his professional career, Webber was awarded a scholarship to attend UC Irvine. A four-year starter, Webber was a two-time All-American Opposite during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Webber was awarded the NCAA National Championship Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player Award in 2007. Not only did Webber shine on the court, but he remained dedicated to his academic responsibilities and was awarded the Scholar Athlete Award for maintaining a 3.0+ GPA during the 2006 and 2007 academic years.

Webber began his career at Liberty High School where he was a 3-time Varsity All-League athlete and a part of the 2003 Contra Costa Times All League Roster. Webber also played for Diablo Valley Volleyball Club where the team completed Nationals ranked 5th (the best in Diablo history to that point). At the conclusion of the tournament, Webber was named to the All National’s First Team. Webber was inducted into the Liberty Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.

Webber was also a part of the USA Junior National Team (U21) in 2004 and 2005. Webber trained with the USA Men’s National Team during the summers between 2008-2010 in preparation for the Olympics and World League Competitions.

Webber moved to the Central Coast four years ago and has focused his efforts in growing the game in the SLO region.
