Ryan Zimmerman

This season will mark Coach Ryan's 6th season coaching club for both girls and boys. Coach Ryan is an alumnus of Arroyo Grande High School, where he was a highly decorated athlete. During his tenure at AGHS Ryan was awarded multiple All-League, League MVPs, All-County, and All-CIF honors.  His senior seasons ended with an All-State selection in basketball, a state championship in track and field, and All-American honors as a triple jumper in track and field. Upon graduating from AGHS, Ryan accepted a track and field scholarship from Arizona State University. While competing as a Sun Devil he became a PAC-10 champion, 4 time All-American and was the 3rd best jumper in the US. His career was cut short by injuries.

After college, Ryan became an officer in the US Army and served for 7 years before retiring. Upon his return to California, Ryan met his current wife, and fellow F.A.V coach Courtney, and became engrossed in her love for volleyball. Together Ryan and Courtney began coaching boys club volleyball, which evolved into Ryan coaching boys and girls club teams in the Bay Area.

Ryan went on to become a coach for the NCVA High Performance program working with numerous NCAA D1 scholarship athletes in the Northern California Volleyball Association. In 2016, the NCVA HP team made a historic run, winning the National Championship, beating the USA and Canadian Junior National Teams along the way. In 2017 the NCVA HP team came home with the bronze medal.  After back-to-back successful showings at the High Performance National Championships, the NCVA HP team was invited to play in the Cornacchia World Cup. Hosted in Pordenone, Italy the tournament is the most prestigious junior (U19) tournament in the world. The team finished 13th out of 64 teams with 24 nations sending representatives. It was the best finish ever for any US men’s team playing in the tournament.  Last season, Ryan coached the Arroyo Grande girls volleyball team. Together with his wife Courtney, Ryan lives in Arroyo Grande with their two children, dog, and two kittens.
