Chip Blaney

Chip Blaney began playing volleyball his Freshman year of high school when he attended San Luis Obispo High School. By his sophomore year, Chip had gone from a 1st year bench player on JV to a key contributor on the Varsity team. He would go on to play Varsity for 3 years; his Senior year being coached by current Flight Academy Volleyball Coach Manny Carter. Blaney was voted 1st Team All League and 3rd Team All-CIF during his final year as a SLO High Tiger.

In 2011, Chip started his coaching career coaching both Boy’s and Girl’s volleyball in the San Luis Obispo area. This would lead to him taking over the Varsity Girl’s Volleyball Team at St. Joseph High School where he would coach for 2 years. Following his 2 years with St. Joseph, Chip accepted the position as the Varsity Head Coach for the Girl’s Volleyball Team at Arroyo Grande High School. While there, his teams would combine for a record 59-13, with only 3 League losses and finished as a top 75 team in California.

During 2016, Chip accepted the Head Coach position for the Cal Poly Women’s Club Volleyball team. The team would cap off Chip’s first season in the program with a NCVF National Championship. He would return to the program in 2017 for his final year where the team would finish 13th in the country. That same year, Chip was awarded the NCCVL Conference Coach of the Year Award. In 2019 Chip accepted the Volunteer Assistant Coach position for the NCAA Division 1 Cal Poly Women’s Volleyball team where he coached for 1 season.

Chip has 3 years of Administrative experience as a Boy’s Club Director and a Director of Coaching and Training. On top of coaching for Flight Academy Volleyball, Chip also coaches camps and clinics across the country for Gold Medal Squared where he works alongside former and current Division 1 and Olympic Volleyball Coaches. His passion for the sport of Volleyball and his desire to grow the sport in his hometown lead him to partner with James Bueno in the creating of Flight Academy Volleyball.
